5 Common Misconceptions about Filler

Dermal fillers. To some, this term can be somewhat confusing. Many equate fillers with Botox, or believe that it always results in a face that looks unnaturally altered. In reality, fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin, and are used to subtly add hydration and volume, leaving your skin looking and feeling rejuvenated and youthful. Here are some of the misconceptions about filler we hear most often:

1. Fillers are the same as Botox.

Though a common misconception, fillers are definitely not the same as Botox. Botox works by preventing facial muscles which cause lines and wrinkles to contract, while fillers insert hyaluronic acid to replace the volume in our face that we lose as we age.

2. Fillers can only be used on the face.

Fillers can actually be used for hand rejuvenation as well, including correcting fat loss, and minimizing the appearance of veins.

3. Fillers are painful.

Though you may experience some slight swelling after your procedure, many filler products contain numbing agents, and topical numbing agents rubbed on before the procedure can provide additional relief.

4. Fillers look unnatural.

If performed by a reputable provider, fillers provide a natural and rejuvenating effect. Fillers are used to replace the depleted volume and hydration in our skin, and when expertly placed, will result in a softer, more youthful appearance.

5. Fillers must be retouched frequently.

While fillers may need to be retouched occasionally, it’s not nearly as often as people think. Depending on where the filler is placed, what filler is used, and how active the person is who is receiving it, fillers can last between 6 months and 2 years.Have more questions about fillers, or interested in learning how they could rejuvenate your look?
