Acne Treatment
Broadband light therapy is an effective treatment for mild-to-moderate acneic skin of any age, with little or no down time. A combination of light energy treatments target the bacteria that cause acne and help reduce redness. Acne usually starts in the mid-teens and affects an estimated 40% of the population. Several factors can cause acne scarring including a high-sugar, high-dairy diet; gluten or soy allergies; hormonal imbalance; and exposure to environmental toxins such as chemicals and pesticides.
Microneedling has become one of the most popular treatment options for acne scars. Traditionally, acne scars have been difficult to treat. Microneedling can break up acne scar tissue and encourage the growth of new tissue. In fact, it works very well for hypertrophic scars caused by acne, burns, injury and surgery. Microneedling for acne scars can significantly improve skin appearance, texture and overall quality.
Unlike laser skin resurfacing, microneedling does not affect the epidermis layer of the skin in any way, which means the procedure can be safely repeated multiple times until the desired results are achieved. Another advantage is that the treatment doesn’t create a separation between the treated and untreated skin surfaces. So the focus can just be on the scarred area without the need to blend in at the treatment edges. Microneedling is suitable for all types of skin including thin and sensitive skin, and is also safe for dark as well as ethnic skin.
Depending on the surface area needing to be treated and the severity of the acne scars, a microneedling session can last anywhere from a few minutes to up an hour. Microneedling patients can expect to have little discomfort during the procedure and minimal downtime (1-3 days) after. Dramatic results can usually be achieved after 3-6 treatments.
